How to Use Eyeliner by The Beauty Bar

MAC makeup ctWhen used correctly, eyeliner can accentuate your eyes and create a striking appearance. When it is not done right, eyeliner can smudge and smear. Here are some tips to help you apply liquid, pencil, or gel eyeliner like a pro.

Liquid Eyeliner

If you are going to use liquid eyeliner, the first thing you should do is shake it for a few seconds to make sure it is well mixed. Then unscrew the cap and pull out the brush. If it has too much eyeliner, wipe it across the edge of the bottle to remove some.

Put the brush against your upper lash line as close to your eyelashes as you can get. Start at the middle of your lash line and work your way out. To get a more even line, use a pencil first. Next, line the inner corner of your lash line and connect the two lines with small strokes to create a solid line. If you make a mistake, you can use a cotton swab and makeup remover to fix it.

You can create wings for a more intense look. Follow the curve of your outer lash line form the outer corner upward. You can hold the edge of a business card against the outer edge of your eye at an angle or use a piece of tape to help you make a straight line.

Eyeliner Pencil

To use an eyeliner pencil, you first need to make sure it is the right temperature. If it is too hard, you can heat it for a few seconds by holding it over a flame. Test it on your wrist before using it on your eye. If the pencil is too soft, you can cool it down by putting it in the freezer for 10 minutes.

Put your finger on the outer edge of your upper lashes and pull your eyelid taut. You can also close your eye as you pull your lid taut to get a straight line. Raise your eyebrows to prevent your eyelid from blocking your lash line.

Start at the inner corner of your eye and work across to the outer edge. Use short strokes to make an even line. You can make your eyes look bigger by using a lighter color on the inner corner. You can create a more natural look by tight lining your eyes. Apply eyeliner only to the spaces between your lashes on the upper eyelid.

If you want to line your lower lid, pull it taut and use short strokes. You can create a dramatic look by lining the outer bottom lash line. For a more subtle look, just line the outer half or use a lighter shade.

Gel Eyeliner

To use gel eyeliner, dip a liner brush in the pot so the tip or edge is coated in liner. Start at each end of your eyelid and work toward the center. You can also make several dots and connect them. Fill in the spaces with small strokes.
