Tips to Help You Prevent Bed Head

Everybody has woken up with hair that was a disheveled and tangled mess. Here are some simple strategies you can use every night to prevent bed head.

If you go to bed with wet hair, it will be more vulnerable than it is when dry and therefore more likely to break and split. If you shower at night, you should let your hair air-dry or blow-dry it before you turn in. If you don’t have time to dry your hair, wrap it in a cotton t-shirt, which is less abrasive to hair than a towel.

If your hair is dry and in need of extra moisture, rub in a leave-in conditioner before you go to bed. This will allow the treatment to sink in over a long period of time to hydrate and smooth your hair. You can also apply a mask at night and wash it out in the morning or rub a small amount of coconut oil into your hair. Wear a shower cap or scarf to protect your pillowcase.

It is crucial to remove tangles from your hair before you retire to prevent bed head. Brushing your hair can also distribute natural oils from your scalp through your hair. Use a brush with natural bristles, start at the roots, and work your way to the tips. If you use a lot of styling products, this will prevent them from building up on your scalp.

If you get a blow out at a salon, you need to take extra care before you go to sleep to protect your style. Start at the top of your head and use a brush to arrange hair around your head. Pin it flat with bobby pins. This will keep it straight while you are sleeping.

If your hair is often tangled or flat in the morning, try putting it in a top knot before you go to bed. Use a tug-free hair tie or scrunchie to avoid breaking your hair. If you wash your hair at night, use a volumizing product on the roots and then apply a texturizing product throughout when it is almost dry. Pull your hair into a loose top knot to give it extra volume and prevent tangles.

Heat and air conditioning can dry out your hair. Using a humidifier can provide your hair with moisture, reduce breakage, and increase shine.

Cotton and flannel pillowcases can create friction that can damage hair. Use a silk or Egyptian cotton pillowcase to keep your hair smooth.
