All in the Family

In the beauty industry the Lauder name needs no introduction. The matriarch of beauty’s royal family, Estee, persuaded the higher ups at New York City department stores to give her space at Saks Fifth Avenue in 1948 and from there she went on to launch cosmetic products that would soon become the envy of the global fashion elite. After passing in 2004 the Lauder name continued to dominate not only cosmetics but perfume as well and now granddaughter Aerin is following in the mighty footsteps with her very own cosmetic brand that promises to be low maintenance but with the right products.

Having served 20 years in the product division of Estee Lauder, Aerin is uniquely qualified to carry on the rich legacy of the Lauder name and will unveil her line of compact makeup, bronze illuminating powder, lip conditioner, color for lips and cheeks, eye shadow and body crème under the moniker AERIN beauty line. As Aeirn recently told the Palm Beach Post, “I know how important beauty is in a woman’s life and also how hard it can be sometimes to look beautiful and stylish. I am inspired by everyday life. The line is all about effortless beauty”.

Just like her grandmother, Aerin has no intention of keeping a low profile. While she could sit back and rake in the royalties of one of the beauty industries most recognizable brands, Aerin is also busy licensing a variety of home furnishings for a spring 2013 debut. The line, being created by Lee Jofa, will include wall coverings and trimmings, area rugs and upholstery fabrics that will be available exclusively to interior designers through Lee Jofra sales representatives. Aerin was quoted as saying, “While beauty is my heritage, home is one of my passions”. Be on the lookout for AERIN beauty products this holiday season.

Tips for Winter Wedding Makeup

As the days grow shorter and you get ready for a winter wedding it’s time to start thinking about ideas for wedding makeup that will help you look your radiant best. Winter presents a challenge for brides since the lighting is different and more blue which means you need to play to your strengths and not fight the tide. Many brides make the mistake of combating the light with bronzing gels and powders which tend to make skin look orange in December and January. If your skin is pale you can use that to your advantage.

Using crisp colors for lips such as red and berry shades as well as soft apricot and coral for blush will create a natural winter glow that will highlight your facial features. You can also bring out the color of your nails by going with bright colors that will contrast nicely with the pale complexion of your skin and the white wedding gown. Finding ways to accentuate your natural skin complexion is much better than fighting it.

Also, during the winter skin dries much easier and you need to use nourishing moisturizers to help exfoliate skin. Your lips are also prone to drying much quicker when can create chapped lips that may show up in wedding photos. Choose a lipstick that not only has the shade you want but also is formulated with moisturizer to keep your lips looking soft and healthy. Be sure to moisturize skin regularly in the weeks leading up to the wedding since the better your skin looks the better the make-up will look. You may also want to have a professional facial done prior to the wedding to keep skin clear and gleaming.

Lastly, be mindful of the skin on your hands. From holding the bouquet, being fitted with the ring and taking your partner’s hand your hands will be on display most of the day and you should keep hand cream nearby to continually moisturize the skin so it looks healthy for all those photographs. Who We’ve Worked With

Since starting her career Adriana Bomova, owner of The Beauty Bar in Southington, CT has had the good fortune to perform her makeup services for many well known personalities in the state. From Congressman Chris Murphy to celebrity Chef Silvio Suppa Bomova’s makeup skills have been in demand for a host of Connecticut luminaries and lawmakers in addition to the many brides she has styled for in preparation for big wedding days. Here is a snapshot of some of Bomova’s better know clients.

Chris Murphy – The 39-year old Congressman represents Connecticut’s 5th District which includes Litchfield County, the city of Waterbury and the suburbs of Farmington Valley. Born August 3, 1973 Murphy grew up in nearby White Plains, NY before attending Williams College where he spent a year abroad studying at the prestigious Exeter College at Oxford and obtaining his law degree from the University of Connecticut Law School. In 1998 at the age of 25 Murphy was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives from the 81st District and in 2000 he was elected to the Connecticut State Senate.

Silvio Suppa – Well known celebrity chef, restaurant owner and author, Chef Silvio is the creative culinary force behind the Woodwinds banquet facility in Branford and Café Allegre in Madison which also includes the Inn at Lafayette. In addition to heading up the menus at these fine establishments Silvio has also launched a line of sauces, cookbooks and recently began work on a pilot for his own TV show, Cooking with Chef Silvio in which his makeup was done by none other than the Beauty Bar’s own Adriana.

Jim Masters – A staple of the News/Talk 960 WELI radio station Maters has enjoyed a prolific career as a radio and TV personality. He hosts the long-running consumer shopping program The Home Shopper Show on WELI and has also made numerous appearances on WTNH 8 and PBS as well as being cast in network shows Law & Order and Lights Out. Through his on-air efforts Masters has helped raised awareness and fund for several charitable organizations including The American Cancer Society and The Arthritis Foundation.

FOXy Ladies

Anyone who actually pays attention to TV news has probably noticed the difference between female broadcasters on FOX News and women anchors on other channels. Recently on the Huffington Post an article ran that focused on the heavy use of makeup by FOX News women and why the network goes to such lengths to beautify their on-air talent.

FOX is known for hiring female anchors that are blonde, attractive and not averse to wearing bronzer, eye shadow, lip liner and gloss in an attempt to sexy up the news. Even head honcho at the network, Roger Ailes, once admitted the reason he hired Sarah Palin was because “she’s hot and gets ratings”. In fact, FOX News is the only network that has a full-time image consultant for on-air personalities while competitor C-SPAN doesn’t even have a makeup room.

While many in the news industry will claim that using looks to sell the news is lowering the bar and a cheap way to get viewers. Of course, news programs are paid for by advertisers and they want ratings, not facts. Regardless of how viewers feel about the political leanings of FOX News there’s no denying their staff of women anchors and reporters are, um, made up differently that the girls on CNN or MSNBC.
